U4GM poe2 Guide: Why Pick Spirit Walker or Martial Artist from Rodrigo60's blog

AD

The new ascendancy options aren't just another pair of passive trees to click through. They change how you think about a character from the first few acts onward, especially if you're already planning gear, sockets, and POE 2 Items around a specific playstyle. Spirit Walker leans into companions, spirits, and strange bargains with nature. Martial Artist is much more hands-on. You're channeling, striking, setting up echoes, and making your gear do things it probably shouldn't be allowed to do.

Spirit Walker feels like playing with a living toolkit

You'll notice the Spirit Walker's identity pretty quickly. It isn't just "summon a pet and forget it." The class works through Asmerian wisps, and each one pushes your combat in a different direction. Primal wisps call on the stag, which can turn your attacks into a trampling rush through packs. Vivid wisps bring the owl, giving you feather buffs that add projectiles and make your next projectile skill fly much faster. Wild wisps bring the bear, and that one's hard to miss. It mauls, slams, jumps into trouble, and roars enemies down. If you invest into all three paths, the hidden Sacred Wisps node ties the whole theme together. The bear helps absorb damage and feeds you life regeneration, the stag becomes more aggressive, and owl-boosted skills leave Soaring Ground as they travel.

Boss taming is the part people will test for weeks

The biggest hook, though, is taming beast bosses. That's the mechanic players will talk about in chat, because it turns rare encounters into long-term build choices. Instead of killing a memorable creature and moving on, you can keep it as a permanent ally. Silverfist from the jungle depths sounds like the sort of brute that can carry early fights. A three-headed chimera from the wetlands gives a different feel, probably better for players who want chaos on the screen. Rakar, the Frozen Talon, brings that giant owl fantasy with a colder edge. The smart move is simple: tame something useful early, then swap only when a later boss genuinely fits your build better.

Martial Artist rewards timing more than button spam

The Martial Artist has a very different rhythm. It's a monk-style ascendancy built around hollow techniques, and it wants you to set things up before the screen explodes. Channeling Hollow Form creates illusions that copy a skill you choose, which is great for turning a tight, focused attack into something that clears packs. Way of the Mountain adds a sturdier layer while you're channeling, covering you in stone when enemies are immobilised and also hardening your weapon for better attack damage. Then there are the bells. Hollow Focus Technique places spiritual bells around you, and any attack can break them for area damage. Hollow Resonance puts a bell on your back, ringing whenever you crit and punishing nearby enemies.

Gear choices get weird in a good way

Both ascendancies care about gear, but Martial Artist is the one that'll make crafters stop and stare. Runic tattoos add extra rune slots across your character: one acting like a helmet, two like body armour, one like gloves, and one like boots. That means more room to tune damage, defence, or odd utility pieces. Then Way of the Stone Fist takes your gloves and transforms them into Fists of Stone. The old modifiers don't vanish; they become stronger, heavier, more physical in feel. A pair with flat elemental damage, resistances, and life gained on hit can turn into something much more serious. Players hunting for POE 2 Items for sale will likely pay close attention to gloves, runes, and anything that feeds this transformation without wasting a single slot.
